7வது சைவ மாநாடு இலண்டன் 2004 noted that in Chidambaram, one of the greatest of Siva temples in the world and the foremost in South India, puja is still performed the Vedic way which preceded the Agamic form of worship which is prevalent today. While having so many races and liguistic groups now having access to Siva puja it is necessary that petty bickering about language does not occur. We cannot have "Tamil" Siva temples, "Gujarati"Siva temples, "Hindi" temples, "Karnada" Siva temples, "Bengali" Siva temples, "English" Siva temples, "French" Siva temples etc. Sanskrit the lan- guage of the Vedas, performs the role of uniting the Hindu world. Wherever one goes in the Hindu world, there is a common unit- ing language of Sanskrit. Simultaneously, and language of prayer can be entertained as God accepts all languages. Therefore, let the language of the Mulasthanam be Sanskrit with other languages also given a prominent place according to circumstances. We should remember our Nayanmars did not do Archana - they sang in sweet Tamil as Appar (Thirunavukarasar) sang "Tamilodisai padal marandariyen". Yet, still our Nayan mars never decried the legitimate role of Sanskrit. If the wife and the husband quarrel in the front room over which TV show to watch, the thief can easily come into the back and rob everything. Now is the time for Hindus to unite, avoid petty arguments, and same the religion. There is a massive effort by Chiristian missionaries to convert poor rural Hindus by unethical means in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bangladesh. Our temples have for long been places only for puja. Hereafter our temples should be as the Trisulam of Siva. Middle sulam nitya puja, sangabisekam, utsavas, etc. Left sulam spritual discourses, bhajans, araneri classes etc. The right sulam service to humanity. Orphanages, educational services for poor 31 children, senior citizen homes, etc. The main 2 Causes of religious conversion are 1) The wrong concept of Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava (Emmadamum Sammadam), the idea that as Hindus we should say all religions are true - which has made us weak. Respecting other religions is a mark of civilization, but hindus following those religions is a mark of suicide. Our Nayanmars fought strongly to stop conversion and save Saivism. They did not say Emmadamum Sammadam. Therefore, religious education and also development of a sense of Hindu consciousness is necessary now. 2) Our temple Devasthanams must do charitable services. It is good to encourage rudraksha, vibhuti, Thevara, Thiruvachakam etc. But we should recognize ourselves as Hindus. When our Nayanmars did not deny the Vedic roots of Saivism, why should we try to? It is the Christian missionaries who will be the first to clap their hands if we fight amongst ourselves and weaken ourselves thereby. Rama worshipped the Lingam at Rameswaram. Atma Nivedana means devoting ones whole life to the service of the Lord. Savas, Vaisnavas, Vedantis all are Hindus. Let there be pride in Saivism, but as Saivite Hindus. Let the Nandi flag be raised everywhere in defence of the religion. Let the sound of Thevaram, Thiruvachakam and Om Nama Sivaya resound in every Saiva household. Swami Vivekananda said "Those who have left the Hindu religion should be brought back". Where has conversion taken place? When did it take place? How many? Why? Where is there preaching needed? Where are religious classes for children needed to be started? Where are orphanages needed to be established? Now is the time for ACTION.■
